564. IPL Semifinal Scenario -Part 2

தமிழ் வலைப்பதிவில் ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதற்கு பொறுத்தருளவும் :-) IPL கிரிக்கெட் பற்றி எழுதும்போது, தமிழில் எழுதினாலும், ஆங்கிலம் நிறைய கலப்பதால், பெரிய வித்தியாசம் ஏதுமில்லை!

3 matches to go: CSK vs KXIP, DC vs DD, KKR vs MI

8 possible scenarios are possible and after analyzing those, the summary is as follows:

1. I will talk about CSK first! Chennai needs a "simple" win (last ball of 20th over OR by 1 ball) against KXIP to qualify for Semis irrespective of what happens in other 2 matches as CSK has a NRR that is better than all its possible competitors, RCB, DD, DC & KKR.

CSK will decide its own destiny today at Dharmasala!

2. Mumbai win will ensure 100% Semifinal berth for RCB irrespective of other 2 matches.

CSK Losing against KXIP ensures a 3rd place Semifinal spot for RCB, irrespective of other 2 matches. So, RCB & Mallya fans should support Punjab team :-)

Considering all scenarios, it is 99% likely that RCB will enter semifinals in 3rd or 4th place. So, all RCB fans can actually relax for few days, before it gets beaten in the semis anyway ;-)

3. CSK & DC losing their respective matches and KKR winning against MI (ensuring its NRR overtakes that of DC!) is the only realistic scenario where KKR goes to semis along with MI, DD & RCB.

There are other unrealistic scenarios too where KKR can go thru' (theoretically speaking!) where "Himalayan" margin of win is needed by KKR, moving from a -ve NRR (-0.46) to +ve NRR ahead of teams like RCB & DD. I am not going to waste my time discussing those (as though I am not doing now watching IPL!) ;-)

4. One of the 2 teams, DD or DC, gets thru' to Semifinals w/o any worry about NRR & results of other 2 matches, as it reaches 16 points.

MI winning & CSK losing their respective matches is good not only for RCB, but for DC and DD as well (irrespective of the DD-DC result!) to qualify for semis. So, number of enemies for CSK has increased dramatically now ;-)

5. If DC & CSK win today, it will be ensured that 3 teams from the south (Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore) enter semifinals and at least 1 would reach the IPL finals!

An MI win & CSK loss ensures 2 South teams (RCB and DC) reach SF and here again, 1 of them would reach Finals!

But my support would be for Mumbai if CSK does not reach Finals! (I am sure that CSK will enter Semis anyway :-)) I would like to see Mumbai win the finals, just to see the smile on the face of that great man who has led his team so admirably, though I am not a great fan of Nita Ambani ;-)

Making the "God" feel sad is not good for the country that has embraced cricket as its religion!
